ORT, founded in St. Petersburg in 1880, returned to Russia in 1989 to develop both traditional ORT educational programs as well as economic and social development projects under International Cooperation throughout the region.
ORT has historically focused its efforts on the reintegration of refugees in postconflict societies, and played an active role in revitalizing civil society through the development and promotion of non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
Workforce development and vocational training programs were designed and delivered to meet the labor markets in various countries.
Refugee assistance and counseling programs were designed in response to regional crises. Information, communication and technology programs reached many different segments of population.
