Information & Communication Technologies (ICT) training became, in most developing countries, a primordial necessity to prepare the young generation for future employment and to improve the quality of the services provided to the population.

The Digital Community Centers develop community technologies skills creating a trained labor force for the emerging services.

Funded by the Hewlett Packard Corporation and benefiting from ORT experience in ICT training, the centers are working with local education authorities to adapt new pedagogical techniques in order to produce better trained graduates, assist the professional adaptation of the community and retrain the unemployed as well as providing the skills for the creation of small enterprises.

Components

  • Equipment of teaching computers' lab;
  • Equipment of computers' maintenance training lab;
  • Training of local trainers;
  • Courses for local teachers.

Beneficiaries'

Local colleges and learning institutes, school teachers, trainers and students.

Objectives

  • Providing computer skills for everyone;
  • Participating in the fight against poverty;
  • Improving the plight of the disadvantaged;
  • Promoting the employability of young people.

Expected results

Each participant will be able to assume office computerized work and will be better prepared for future employment or will have enough knowledge to start a business.
