Philippines Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Appeal

By Stefan Bialoguski, November 21st, 2013

World ORT has joined the international effort to help the people of the Philippines recover and rebuild their lives and country following Typhoon Haiyan.

As a member of the Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief, our experience and expertise in long term recovery programmes will be coordinated to maximise the kind of lasting benefits we brought to survivors of the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Through its non-sectarian arm, ORT IC, World ORT has implemented more than 350 projects in nearly 100 countries to the benefit of more than two million people since 1960.

In Haiti, this included the training of more than 1,400 masons in earthquake-resistant building techniques as well as creating and operating the only vocational school in the capital, Port-au-Prince.

In the years following the tsunami, World ORT brought trauma counselling and vocational training programmes to Sri Lanka and provided education infrastructure development to India's Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

With your help we can bring similarly effective long-term assistance to the people of the Philippines. The Jewish Coalition for Disaster Relief is coordinated by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to prevent duplication of efforts and to ensure maximum efficiency.

"This appeal is particularly close to our hearts as ORT worked in the Philippines for nearly 20 years. We are ready to bring all our skills to bear to help shattered communities and individuals rebuild in the months and years ahead," said World ORT Acting Director General and CEO Sonia Gomes de Mesquita.

Do not allow the people of the Philippines to be forgotten. Give as much as you can so that World ORT can provide on-going practical support. All money raised will be used on projects in the Philippines.
